Virgin Snatch: Act of grace
24/03/10 || Euthanatos
I’m sure I’ve listened to Virgin Snatch sometime in the past, although I can’t quite remember what is was, or when. I do remember it being thrash metal and not being bad at all, but that’s as far as my memory will take me. Growing old is terrible. Terrible. Anyway, these poles * giggle * are not your run-of-the-mill thrash metal, being heavy as all shit, bordering death metal in their guitar sound. The riffs are pretty thrashy, though, and most of the time speed is of the essence.
Nevertheless, somewhere along the way of me listening to them for the first time and now, Virgin Snatch seemed to have taking a liking to inserting phallic objects into their anuses. Right from the opener and title-track, you get, amidst the violence and force, some clean vocals and a metalcorey passage. What in the fuck? Don’t know how this happened, but it did. I like the change in mood, particularly in the vocals, though, shows a lot of versatility from Lukasz “Zielony” Zielinski, who shows he has a plethora of styles. As a whole, the band is really good, the drummer also deserves a nod, Jacek “Jacko” Slawenski, very solid and creative work, pounds away at the drums like a priest on a schoolboy.
As I continue listening to “Act of Grace”, I’m also surprised at how good the production is. If I had to place my finger on it, I’d definitely put this in the metalcore scene, and among the more gifted (financially) bands of the genre. It seems Virgin Snatch has decided to ride on the coattails of their North American brethren, and I can’t really blame them, as that is what makes money these days. While I can’t commend the band for doing something original, quite the contrary, they seemed to have gone out of their way to sound more “American”, if you will, the quality on “Act of Grace” is undeniable, and while I found the clean singing choruses very 2007, they show a band talented enough in what they do. I’m just not that happy with what they are doing.
Hopefully Virgin Snatch will find some true identify along the way instead of falling off the wagon into obscurity along with everyone else from Massachusetts, and you bet your ass that’s bound to happen any day now. There is yet time to repent, lads. Heed my word. Only the penitent men shall pass.
